Visits: 623
The Karatal-Zhapyryk State Reserve is situated in the Naryn region, to the south of Son-Kul Lake. Encompassing the Kara-Tal and Zhapyryk rivers, the reserve spans over 14,000 hectares. The reserve is divided into two sections: Karatal-Zhapyryk and Son-Kul. The primary focus of the former is safeguarding alpine meadows and spruce forests, while the latter aims to protect the rare mountain goose, as Son-Kul Lake serves as a nesting site for this unique bird. Son-Kul Lake itself is the largest freshwater mountain lake in Kyrgyzstan, serving as a migratory stop for numerous birds not only from Kyrgyzstan but also from Altai, Siberia, and Kazakhstan. Enthusiasts of ecotourism, cultural, and educational exploration will relish this destination. Here, you can bask in the awe-inspiring nature and immerse yourself in the nomadic way of life.
