Ratsek Hut, also spelled Racek Hut, is a high-mountain refuge in Ala-Archa National Park, Kyrgyzstan, above the Ak-Sai valley. Standing at roughly 3,300–3,400 metres, it is a destination for experienced hikers and a base for mountaineering in the Ak-Sai area.
Why visit Ratsek Hut?
The attraction is the alpine setting: rocky slopes, mountain views and the atmosphere of a working climbers' base. Reaching the hut also reveals a higher, more rugged landscape than the park's lower valley walks.
The hiking route
The usual approach starts at Alplager and follows the Ak-Sai route toward the waterfall before continuing uphill to the hut.
As a planning reference, expect approximately:
- Distance: around 6 km each way.
- Elevation gain: roughly 1,200 metres.
- Ascent: around 4–6 hours, potentially longer with a heavy pack or difficult conditions.
Figures vary by starting point and track. Allow a full mountain day for the return hike, including breaks and a substantial descent. Start early and set a turnaround time.
Staying overnight
An overnight stay can spread the walking across two days. Contact the operator beforehand to confirm beds, camping arrangements, meals, bedding and current charges.
Carry sufficient food and do not depend on unconfirmed supplies or equipment rental. Bring drinking water and a way to treat collected water.
What to pack
Take grippy hiking footwear, warm layers, waterproofs, sun protection, food, a headlamp and an offline map. Add an appropriate sleeping system if camping, and plan for cold nights.

Build acclimatisation into your itinerary and check the forecast and snow conditions. Glacier travel and summit climbs require separate planning, suitable skills and equipment; arrange a qualified mountain guide where needed.
