Big Ala-Archa Glacier: A Haven for Mountain Enthusiasts Near Bishkek
Visits: 15207
The Big Ala-Archa Glacier stands as a remarkable destination that caters to climbers and mountain enthusiasts without requiring them to venture far into remote corners of Kyrgyzstan. Situated just 50 km away from the capital city of Bishkek, this area beckons adventure-seekers 365 days a year.
The glacier finds its home within the expansive Ala-Archa National Park, accessible by a regular minibus journey from Bishkek. Scaling the glacier itself from the alpine camp demands a full day's endeavor if you embark on it in the morning. However, during the middle or end of summer, the trail may be adorned with an abundance of strawberries and other wild herbs.
At the glacier's expanse lies an aged ski base, constructed during the days of the Soviet Union. It extends a gracious offer of free lodging, complete with beds and blankets.
The glacier and its encompassing slopes are positioned at an elevation just exceeding 3500 meters. Even in the height of summer, these heights are blanketed in knee-deep snow, an inviting prospect for snowboarders, skiers, and enthusiasts of snow exploration.
