Where is Skazka Canyon?

Skazka lies near Tosor, just inland from the road following the southern shore of Issyk-Kul. It fits naturally into a journey between the south-shore villages and Karakol.

The turnoff from the main road and the canyon walking area are different points. Visitor accounts describe an approach of roughly 2 km from the lakeshore road, so check whether your transport takes you to the walking area or leaves you at the turnoff.

If you plan to walk in from the road, allow for the approach in both directions as well as your time exploring.

By public transport

Ask locally about transport using the southern lakeshore road. Before boarding, confirm that the vehicle passes the Skazka turnoff and that the driver can stop there.

A roadside drop-off does not include the remaining approach to the canyon. Plan that section and the return connection before leaving.

Do not rely on a guaranteed bus departure immediately after your visit. For a late-afternoon outing, prearranging collection avoids having to solve the return journey as daylight fades.

By rental car

Confirm current conditions on the approach road and check that your rental agreement permits it.
