In a concerted effort to disseminate Soviet ideals and strengthen influence among the mountainous populace, the musical and drama studio was founded in Pishpek on October 11, 1926, under the auspices of the Soviet government. The theater's inception is celebrated on November 2, 1926.
The illustrious edifice of the Kyrgyz National Academic Drama Theater, named after T. Abdumomunov, came to life in the late 1960s. The structure's construction reached its culmination in the ensuing decade. In 1997, the theater was formally dedicated to T. Abdumomunov, an homage to his impactful contributions.
A significant phase of transformation unfolded in the theater's journey. In 2008, its doors were temporarily closed for a comprehensive renovation. After a meticulous three-year overhaul, the theater reopened its doors in 2011, welcoming audiences with renewed vigor and artistic grandeur.
