Törügart Pass
Torugart Pass: Mountain Crossing of Kyrgyzstan and China
Visits: 657
Törügart Pass stands as a grandeur mountain passage nestled within the Tian Shan mountain range, serving as a bridge between the Naryn Region of Kyrgyzstan and China's Xinjiang Autonomous Region. This pass is one of the distinguished gateways connecting Kyrgyzstan and China, with Erkeshtam being its counterpart 165 km to the southwest. Adorning the Kyrgyz side of the pass is the picturesque Chatyr-Köl Lake. The journey on the road stretching about 400 km to Naryn, Balykchy, and Bishkek is characterized by narrow pathways and winter challenges due to heavy snowfall and frequent avalanches. On the Chinese side, the Torugart Port of Entry stands about 110 km from the pass itself, located in Ulugqat County of the Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture. Key distances from the pass include 110 km to Ulugqat, 165 km to Kashgar, and approximately 1,630 km to Ürümqi. The pass also marks the terminus of European route E125 and, as per new National Highway plans, China National Highway 315. However, these signs are not present in the area as of 2020.
