Before there was a hero, there was a father’s longing. Far from their ancestral homeland, Zhakyp and Chyiyrdy waited for a child.
Then came Manas. His birth carried the promise of a different future: a scattered people finding their way home, and a boy growing into the courage they needed.

At Kökötöy’s memorial feast, heroes gather to honor the dead and test the living. Among the contests: a charged encounter between Manas and Qongurbay.

The memorial feast is a setting for remembrance and games. Heroes who oppose one another elsewhere in the epic meet on the same contest ground, with Manas presiding.
Qongurbay is also rendered as Konurbay in English. The spellings reflect different ways of representing the name; here, both refer to Manas’s rival.
